The Bude Canal (EX23 0JD) is a lovely metre wide ribbon of tarmac following the edge of the canal down through the nature reserves to Bude about 2.5 miles each way.A Tramper all terrain mobility scooter is available for hire from Whalesborough Farm (The Weir Bistro, Bude, Cornwall, EX23 0JD) for use exploring the farm trails and canal path. Glen Lyn Gorge (EX35 6ER) is a site of special scientific interest with woodland walks, waterfalls and a water power exhibition. They currently have 1 Tramper and can be called on 01598 753207
Golden Gap Estate National Trust
The great rocky shoulder of Golden Cap offers magnificent views at every compass point. On a clear day you can see across Lyme Bay to Dartmoor – well worth the effort of the walk uphill. The woodland offers a scenic circuit along level paths, it’s also rich in wildlife, with carpets of bluebells in spring and unusual varieties of fungi in the autumn. The coastline of the Golden Cap Estate is part of the Jurassic Coast, Britain’s only natural World Heritage Site, it’s a wonderful place to visit, but it’s important to use common sense and caution – and always pay attention to warning signs and messages about how to stay safe. Lanhydrock Estate (National Trust)
Lanhydrock, (PL30 5AD) Bodmin, Cornwall, PL30 5AD is an estate located just outside Bodmin in Cornwall. There are adapted toilets in car park and near the house and there is a map of accessible routes available. There are two single-seater PMVs available, booking essential 01208 265950.
Mount Edgcumbe Country Park National Trust
Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park, Cremyll, Torpoint, PL10 1HZ. The 885 acres country park is on the Rame Peninsula, overlooking Plymouth Sound and the River Tamar. They currently have 1 Tramper and can be contacted on 01752 822236.
Penrose Estate National Trust
Penrose, Helston, Cornwall, TR13 0RD. Wooded country around Cornwall’s largest natural lake. Penrose features woodland tracks, stretches of coastline and open parkland. A project to help restore wildlife habitats has now been completed. A partnership of conservation groups came together with the aim of improving the willow carr alongside the River Cover. The work, which was coordinated by the National Trust, included coppicing and felling small trees and building leaky dams comprised of carefully-stacked logs and brash. Sections of path were also raised and re-surfaced to improve access for walkers. They have 1 Tramper for hire and their contact number is 01326 560942.
Located west of Bodmin, Siblyback Lake Country Park (PL14 6ER) have accessible parking and toilets. They have 1 Tramper for hire. To check availability or book the Tramper or Wheelyboat, contact Siblyback Outdoor and Active Centre on 01579 346 522. The Tramper can be used to explore the Multi-Use Trail (3.5 miles) around the perimeter of the lake and through woodland, with great views and good access to the water. The wheelyboat can be hired for fishing (£30 half day or £45 full day).
Trelissick Estate National Trust
Trelissick Garden, Feock, Truro, Cornwall, TR3 6QL. On its own peninsula with ever-changing views of the estuary of the River Fal, Trelissick (TR3 6QL) has one of the most amazing natural settings in the country. A beautiful house and garden set in a countryside estate with stunning maritime views and lovely woodland walks. Walk through historic parkland, along an oak-fringed creek and over a timber framed bridge to the promontory fort and 18th-century quay at Roundwood.
