Suffolk Mobility Scooter Provision

The following sites have mobility scooters for hire… it is ALWAYS wise to enquire in advance to ensure one is available:

Dunwich Heath National Trust 

Dunwich Heath (IP17 3DJ) is a National Trust site in Suffolk on the Westleton Heath National Nature Reserve. It is home to rare birds, many of which nest on the ground so during breeding season (1 March – 31 August) visitors must stay on paths at all times and may not tape lure birds or cause disturbance. Dogs MUST be kept on a lead. There are four reserved parking spaces and a carpark viewing point. There is a RADAR toilet nearby. It has a chauffeured multi-seater vehicle as well as 2 Trampers, you can pre-book by calling 01728 648501.

Minsmere RSPB

See above for full details. There are three signposted trails with a mix of different paths, both flat and undulating, where walks can be enjoyed. Some nature trails and hides are adapted for wheelchairs and pushchairs. There are benches on many parts of the trails. There are seven hides and a viewing platform with ramped or level entry into four hides (North, West, South and Island Mere). Three accessible toilets are located in the shop, outdoor toilet block and Discovery Centre. There are baby changing facility in all three accessible toilets. A mobility scooter and manual wheelchair are available to borrow, telephone 01728 648281 or EMail booking is essential.

Sutton Hoo National Trust

Tranmer House (IP12 3DJ) is a hauntingly beautiful 255 acre estate, with far-reaching views over the river Deben, is home to one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time. Walk around the ancient burial mounds and discover the incredible story of the ship burial of an Anglo-Saxon king and his treasured possessions. There is a short walk taking in the burial mounds and wildlife in the woods. There is mobility parking and adapted toilets. They have 4 wheelchairs and 3 Trampers that can be booked by telephoning 01394 389700.
